Have you heard? Vol. 1

No no no, not the bird, however, the bird in undoubtedly the word.

“Have you heard?” is a little blog I’m going to try to do monthly to spotlight a band or musician or two that has caught my attention. Be they new or old, various style or what have you. I just want to give you a glimpse of what I’m digging.

I’m not going to get into bios, history or who’s in the band, just the meat and bones. You can then decide if you want to check them out further or not.

Vol. #1 is a band from Ferndale Michigan (Detroit) called Class Three Overbite.

These guys do powerpop and they do it well. They list JellyFish as an influence and it can be heard distinctly. I would also hearken them to Owsley a bit due to the strong melodies.

The music is in the vein of such popular acts as The Beatles, older Queen and JellyFish’s own Jason Faulkner. Class Three Overbite possess a bright and shiny style that helps you smile and move along with the music.

Some people might find the music a bit plastic and cheesy, but I love it!

Although some arrangements can be complex and layered with fascinating tones and versatile instrumentation, the music has a wonderful cohesive simplicity to it, which is pleasant to the ear.

CTO is playing a show this Saturday Jan 31st at Small in Hamtramck (Detroit) to mark the release of their new album entitled “Horses for Courses” (available on CDbaby, itunes etc)

I hope you guys dig Class Three Overbite. And if you do, drop them a line and let them know they have a new fan. As an indie artist myself, I find it very inspiring and uplifting to know I’m making new fans and my music isn’t falling on deaf ears.

Until next Volume, help spread the word of good music. Enjoy the sounds and the spaces in between!

-Jake of Inoke Errati

p.s. CTO is a myspace friend to Inoke Errati, but we’ve never met these guys. Sometimes the acts will be people we know; sometimes it’ll be complete strangers or bands that aren’t even together anymore. Good music is good music!

If you like Class Three Overbite, you might also dig The Nines!
